§ Brief overview of the Hesse federated state
The federated state of Hesse or Hessia, aka the Land of Hessen is located in the very center of Germany; this federated state is characterized by hilly terrain, forests, hot springs, numerous villages and fortresses. The capital of the land is Wiesbaden. In Frankfurt you can find the largest high-rise buildings, skyscrapers of the country and the largest airport in Germany. In the southern part of the federated state, there is a mild climate area of Bergstrasse (in German: Bergstraße – i.e. "Mountain Road"), where almonds, figs and olive trees are grown.
A major role in the economy of the land is played by the Frankfurt Airport, serving tourists and businesspeople from around the world. More than 200 banks have their branches or head offices here. Besides, large industrial enterprises are located in big cities of this federated state.

§ Population of the Hessen federated state
The population size in Hesse totals 6'213'088 people. Of these, 3'066'957 are men, which is 49.4 % and 3'146'131 are women or 50.6 % of the whole federated state population. The population density of the Hesse federated state is 294 people per 1 square kilometer.
Based on the data in Table 1 (see below on the page), the Hesse federated state occupies 6 % of the entire territory of Germany, which is home to 8 % of the population of the entire country, they live in 423 settlements located on the territory of the said land.

Like in other parts of the country, Hesse has a temperate climate with warm summers and relatively warm winters. According to the German Weather Service (aka the German Meteorological Service) (in German: DWD), in 2023 the average annual temperature in Hesse was 10.7 degrees Celsius, while in winter the air temperature was on average 2.9 °C, and in summer 18.5 °C. The capital of the Hesse federated state is the City of Wiesbaden, in German Wiesbaden or Wiesbaden, Landeshauptstadt, with a population of more than 284'000 people.

§ The Hesse federated state holidays schedule
Every federated state in Germany has the right to establish holidays, days off from work, which are valid on their territory. On the territory of Hesse there are 12 official holidays.
