§ Information about Russian-speaking communities in Germany

The Russian or Russian-speaking diaspora in Germany is a friendly and open-minded community of people living and working in the Federal Republic of Germany, united by the Russian language. Primarily, these are migrants from post-Soviet countries, the CIS, such as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.

The Russian-speaking diaspora in Germany is represented by many different organizations involved in the preservation and development of the culture of their homeland and the Russian language in Germany. Such organizations include community members, cultural educational centers, kindergartens, Russian schools and weekend schools, offering children, youth and adults various courses a la russe. In addition, there are theaters, bands, libraries of the Russian diaspora in Germany offering performances in Russian or in the style of their home country.

Russian-speaking societies and hobby clubs exist in almost all major cities of Germany: scientific and technical seminars, societies of writers, parents and teachers, clubs for students, chess players and even philatelists are among them. Some cities in Germany regularly offer Russian-language film screenings.

Most organizations of the Russian diaspora in Germany aim to help integrate Russian-speaking immigrants, migrants into the local society, at the same time preserving the culture of their home country; other organizations provide financial and organizational support to musicians, writers, singers and other cultural figures in artists from countries of the former Soviet Union.
