§ Brief overview of the Saarland federated state
The Saarland or Saar federated state of Germany is the smallest state in the country, the area of which is about 1% of the territory of Germany; it is located in the southern part of the country and borders with France and Luxembourg. Saarland is a very sunny and warm region of Germany. This federated state has only one large city Saarbrücken (in German: Saarbrücken), which is the capital of Saar. Most of the population lives in small towns or villages. Saar offers many walking, tourist routes, amounting to about 1,500 kilometers long. There are many forests and several rivers in Saar, including the Blies River and the same-name Saar River, forming the famous Saar bend (in German: Saarschleife), a landmark of the federated state. Besides, on the territory of the federated state you will find the Bostalsee Lake (in German: Bostalsee) and a reservoir near Losheim am See (in German: Losheim am See). Another attraction of Saarland is the Schlossberg sandstone caves (in German: Schlossberghöhlen) on the Hill of Schlossberg (in German: Schlossberg) of the city of Homburg (in German: Homburg); they go to great depths and have a length of more than 5,000 meters being one of the favorite tourists attractions.
Since Saarland is bordered by France, it impacts the lifestyle of this federated state residents: many Saarlanders speak French, their favorite dishes include French traditional cuisine as well.
